How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

When you’re looking for the perfect balance between beauty and durability, there is no better option than dermal fillers. This class of injectables can produce long-lasting results! At Belle Meade Medical Spa, we use the Juvederm line of dermal fillers. Although these injectables are not permanent, they can produce long-lasting results. Since everyone is different in how their body processes injectable products, treatment results and longevity can vary. Results will also vary based on the exact product(s) used in your treatment. Most dermal fillers last anywhere from six to twelve months; some may last longer.

The Juvederm Family of Dermal Fillers

The Juvederm family of dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (a naturally-occurring substance in the body that decreases as we age) used to fill in creases and restore volume for that naturally younger look. Juvederm is typically used to improve the appearance of nasolabial folds (wrinkles and lines that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, also known as smile lines). However, Juvederm can also be used to add volume to lips, cheeks, and other areas of the face. It is a safe and effective way to achieve a more youthful appearance. Juvederm is injected into the skin using a fine needle, and it has added lidocaine to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Juvederm provides natural-looking, long-lasting results. Juvederm is FDA-approved and has been used safely by millions of people worldwide. Juvederm is an excellent choice for those seeking a non-surgical option to reduce aging signs.

What Can I Expect During An Appointment?

First, we start with a personalized consultation. In some cases, the consultation and treatment will be done on the same day. During the consultation, your provider will determine whether you are eligible to receive dermal fillers based on your health history and discuss your goals for this treatment. In addition, you and your provider will discuss any allergies, any prior filler treatments, and any other health conditions that could affect your treatment.

Before treatment, you may be asked to refrain from taking certain medications and supplements that can thin your blood, ex: Ibuprofen and Fish Oil. In addition, it would be best if you did not drink alcohol for 24+ hours before your appointment. Avoiding these things can help you heal quickly after your treatment.

Dermal Filler Treatment:

Your provider will thoroughly clean your treatment area(s) and apply a topical numbing agent. Doing this helps to make your treatment as safe and comfortable as possible. Once you are numb, they will begin with your injections. The treatment itself can take anywhere from 15-60 minutes.

Dermal Filler Aftercare & Recovery

Dermal fillers can cause mild swelling and/or bruising, but it isn’t anything that will require time off from work or other duties. We will advise you not to wear makeup or participate in any extensive physical activities for at least 24 hours post-treatment. Aftercare typically involves icing treatment areas to reduce potential swelling or bruising. You may also use a supplement like Arnica to aid with any bruising.

Results from Fillers

Results from dermal fillers can be instant, and they can continue to get better over the course of a couple of weeks. After two weeks, additional dermal filler treatments can be added if desired.
