ABCDE Rule – For Checking Yourself

If you know what you are looking for, you can spot signs of skin cancer early. If something were cancerous, finding it earlier can make the skin cancer easier to treat. You should check your whole body, head to toe, even in crevices – especially if you use/used a tanning bed. Become aware of spots that you currently have and those that may form. Use the ABCDE Rule and make sure to have abnormal spots checked by a specialist.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Skin Cancer is preventable, so it is important we take the proper precautions when spending time in the sun.  UV rays from the sun are dangerous and they are even around on cloudy days. They cause premature aging and skin cancers.

The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends:

Skin Protection

Two types of sunscreen, one is a lotion form and the other is a powder form they are both from ZO Skin Health.

SPF should be a TOP priority when you go outside regardless of the time of year, but especially during the summer months. When your skin is not properly protected from the sun’s harmful rays you are putting yourself at risk for skin cancer.

At Belle Meade Medical Spa we carry ZO Skin Health products which offers some great sun protection products, like the Sunscreen + Primer SPF (recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation) and the Sunscreen + Broad Spectrum Powder
